Reaching For the STARS

Reaching For the STARS

From being an RJ in his early days after practicing as a lawyer at Delhi High Court, to being a successful actor, it has been quite a journey for the multi-talented Aparshakti Khurrana. On his recent trip to Pune, in a quick chat with Anandita Bartake, he talks to about his experience at the fashion week and his latest ventures.

“Most of the people from the entertainment world are somehow related to fashion now a days. I think it is always a pleasure to be part of any fashion week.”

Q: How was your experience at the Lotus Fashion Week?
Fashion week has always been a highlight for all the people in the fashion industry in our country. But initially people weren’t drawn towards fashion, especially men. In the past couple of years people have really up the fashion game, be it people from the fashion industry or from the entertainment industry. I think everyone has come together to welcome fashion. Most of the people from the entertainment world are somehow related to fashion now a days. I think it is always a pleasure to be part of any fashion week.

Q: How was your experience working with Rohit Kamra?
I have worn his (Rohit Kamra) outfits at various events. Recently, I wore one of his creations at the CCFA (Critic Choice Film Award). His attires are quite elegant and a perfect blend of ethnic and classy. Very few people are able to make ethnic wear look cool and he is one of them. There is a certain Rajasthani culture mixed in his clothes which I absolutely love.

Q: When did you realize that acting is what you wanted to pursue as a career?
I studied Law at Punjab University after which I practiced at Delhi High Court for a while. But somewhere I was not enjoying my life nor my career. I loved listening to radio and hence tried my hand at radio jockeying. One thing led to another and I started doing theatre. It was like acting chose me as becoming an actor was never on my agenda. When I thought about my career I always pictured myself as a cricketer but that somehow never materialized. Like they say, all the creative things are interlinked so once I got into the creative mode the rest followed.

Q: How much does Ayushmann help you in your choice of movies?
He never helped me in the choices I made in my career. Although he did suggest me to become a wiser creative person and join a theatre group to enhance my acting skills rather than concentrating on things like working out etc. That is all that he helped me with in my career. He played an important role when I had to take some important steps in life when I was new to this craft.

Q: How has the journey been since being an RJ in Delhi to a successful actor?
I think it is always an on going journey and so far it has been really kind to me. I have done some really good films with some amazing directors and actors. So, life till now has been quite exciting. It is great when you can learn from such journeys where you know you have an upward graph and I hope this continues.

Q: Is working with your brother Ayushmann on the cards?
Yes, we have heard 5-6 scripts so far but none of them have clicked. He (Ayushmann) has had a phenomenal graph in his career. I think for us to collaborate on a particular script it will have to be really good and quirky for us to like it.

Q: Will we be seeing you on the small screen anytime soon?
It all depends on the script, so it doesn’t really matter if it is small screen, the silver screen or even a small Instagram video. If I like what am I doing I’ll do it.
